South Africa did not die in Tembisa Hospital, but the country's loved ones have been advised to start saying their goodbyes. Some have already bought Black pantihose and scarves, asking each other "o lo reka di pentihose tsa hao kae" while the next replies "nna ke ya Plaza kao sane, keo rekele tsako teng?". Others have shaved their hands in anticipation of the bereavement.

Tembisa Hospital

South Africa is a young country in critical condition, with a mysterious cancer invading its once healthy blooming body. Having been born in 1994, this baby nana held the weight of holding a loveless marriage together to prevent a violent racial civil war... oops I meant divorce.

As a seemingly healthy baby, South Africa was a beacon of hope -- a young country birthed with the intent of bridging class and racial inequality. As South Africa got older it quietly inherited the trauma and sickness of being the baby of unity in a marriage that had never truly healed from its own wounds. The scars of apartheid were tucked under mink blankets, hidden under mattresses, and swallowed with isdudu. Now 31 years old, the South Africa is in critical condition, diagnosed with a very terminal cancer -- necropolitical corruption.

It is always sad to watch something die in its youth. Ngoana oa '94 nagana.
